Who We Are
We would like to welcome you and tell you a little something about our congregation: its pastors, leaders and staff; its opportunities for worship and growth; and its beliefs, programs of Christian education, and opportunities for fellowship.
It’s been said that “strangers are only friends we have yet to meet.” We’re happy that you have chosen fellowship with our Peace congregation. May you find comfort and joy in our beliefs and remain with us as a friend.
Mission & Belief
The continuing purpose of this congregation, as a gathering of Christians, is to serve all people in God’s world with the gospel of Jesus Christ on the basis of the Holy Scripture (Matthew 28:18-20)
The primary objectives of this congregation are:
- To faithfully proclaim the law and gospel, to lead sinners to repentance and faith in Jesus Christ for life and salvation (2 Timothy 4:2; Luke 24:26-48).
- To strengthen believers in faith and sanctification through the means of grace (Romans 10:17).
- To equip believers as disciples, stewards and witnesses for sharing the gospel of Jesus with our fellow people (Ephesians 4:11-12).
This congregation is affiliated with and supports the work of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS).
History
Peace Lutheran Church was organized on May 23, 1864. The first church burned to the ground in 1897, after which a larger church was built. When the church outgrew its buildings, it purchased 15 acres of farmland and relocated to its present site and built a still larger church. Ground was broken in 1958, and the new worship facility was dedicated to the glory of God on June 12, 1960.
In 2007, additions to the church were completed and dedicated, including an office wing, a new church library, warming kitchen, parents’ room, and gathering space. A renovation of the worship space was also completed in 2016, bringing updates to the flooring, seating, lighting, acoustics, and chancel furnishings.
In 1969, the congregation made a commitment to the children of our congregation and voted to open a Christian Day School, and by October of 1970 a grateful congregation dedicated its new school building. The school continued to grow and by 1991, a second story was added including five classrooms, a computer lab, a library, offices, along with work and storage areas.
Today, our total program of a Lutheran Elementary School combined with a preschool for 3 and 4 year olds, embraces about 250 children, taught by eleven Lutheran elementary school teachers, a certified preschool teacher, other part-time teachers and aids, and numerous volunteers.
Our present congregation now embraces approximately 650 households, 1400 communicants, and about 1950 baptized souls.

WELS is a group of nearly 400,000 men, women, and children in nearly 1,300 congregations across the United States and Canada united by a common faith in Christ’s saving love. We are committed to a common calling—encouraging each other in our faith and sharing God’s gift of a Savior with the rest of the world.
Nearly 500 years ago, the Christian church was corrupted by many false teachings. A man named Martin Luther led people back to the teachings of the Bible. His work, and that of his friends, is called the Reformation. Through Luther God restored the church to purity of doctrine and a new life of faith in Christ.
The doctrines of the Lutheran Church are not new. They are the teachings of the Bible. Thus the Lutheran Church is not a new church. It is not a sect or cult. It is a church whose teaching is based on the words written by the prophets of the Old Testament and the apostles of the New Testament. The Bible tells us about Jesus Christ.
The teachings of the Lutheran Church are those of the original, ancient church of the apostles and early Christians.
